Our approach
Food the way food should be

Children deserve real food — recognisable ingredients, cooked from scratch, served warm at a table with friends. Nothing reheated from a foil tray, nothing arrived frozen in a truck.

Our chef cooks every meal on site, plans a four-week seasonal menu with our nutritionist, and walks the rooms each lunchtime to see what the children love and what gets pushed around. Real food. Cooked here. Eaten together.

Cooked on site
A real kitchen at the heart of the centre

Our kitchen sits in the middle of the centre — not behind a closed door — so children can see, smell and hear lunch being made. Our chef has been with us for over six years and knows every child’s preferences by name.

Produce arrives twice a week from a local Perth grower. Dairy and eggs are Australian and free-range. Meat is hormone-free from a butcher down the road. Everything is prepared fresh that morning.

Family-style eating
At the table, together

Educators sit and eat the same meal as the children — modelling conversation, manners and joyful eating. Bowls are placed in the centre of the table so children can serve themselves where age-appropriate.

There’s no pressure to clear plates, no rewards for eating greens. Just calm meals, real conversation and the powerful magic of a friend trying something new beside you.

Allergies & dietary needs
Every plate, accounted for

We routinely cater nut-free (centre-wide), dairy-free, gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan, halal, kosher-style and a range of cultural and religious diets. Tell us at orientation and we’ll walk you through how the chef adapts.

Medical allergies sit on an individual Risk Minimisation Plan, plates are colour-coded, the menu board flags every allergen, and our team is trained in EpiPen administration.

For babies
Bottles, breast milk and first foods

Breast milk is labelled, dated and stored in a dedicated fridge or freezer — warmed in a bottle warmer (never the microwave) and offered on your baby’s cues. Breastfeeding parents are always welcome to feed on site.

Formula prep follows your home brand and ratio. Introduction to solids is a partnership — we follow your lead on textures, foods to try and what to hold back, with daily notes home on what was offered and enjoyed.

No top-ups, no surprises

Every meal, included.

One daily fee covers breakfast on request, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and a late snack. No lunchbox packing, no surcharges for special diets, no “extras” bill at the end of the term.

Meal questions

Common questions, answered

  • What if my child is a fussy eater?

Family-style meals are our quiet superpower here. Sitting next to a friend who’s tucking into broccoli works wonders. Educators never pressure — we offer, model and try again tomorrow. Most families tell us their child eats things at Cuddly Bear they’d never touch at home.

  • How do you manage severe allergies?

Every allergy has an individual Risk Minimisation Plan signed off at orientation. The chef colour-codes plates, our menu board flags every allergen, and educators are trained in EpiPen administration. We are a strictly nut-free centre.

  • Can you accommodate religious or cultural diets?

Absolutely. We routinely cater halal, kosher-style, Hindu vegetarian, Buddhist and other culturally-specific diets. Tell us at orientation and we’ll walk you through how the chef will adapt the menu.

  • How do you store and prepare breast milk?

Expressed milk is labelled, dated and stored in a dedicated fridge or freezer. Bottles are warmed in a bottle warmer (never the microwave), offered on your baby’s cues, and unused milk is returned home so you can see what was taken.

  • Can I send my own food?

Generally no — all meals are included in your daily fee and prepared by our chef. The exception is medically-required formula, breast milk, or specialty foods for complex allergies we can’t safely replicate.

  • Are the meals organic?

Where it matters most, yes. Our produce comes weekly from a local Perth grower, dairy and eggs are free-range and Australian, and meat is hormone-free from a local butcher. We prioritise fresh and seasonal over certified organic labels.

  • What about birthdays and celebrations?

Our chef bakes a beautiful allergy-friendly birthday cake for every child on their special day — included, no fuss. Families are welcome to bring a packaged treat too, as long as it’s nut-free.
